While once us girls were limited to trouser suits when it came to office outfits, there is now so much choice that we can actually look fashionable as well as smart.

This is according to Company magazine’s Oonagh Brennan, who said that there is now a wealth of options available, whether you want a boyish look or a more strong feminine feel.

"It’s not just boring, bog standard, school uniform type of stuff," she insisted, suggesting that a white shirt with a waistcoat could be a good look for 2010, as could tailored bodycon dresses.

A recent report by Mintel found that a quarter of women don’t mind paying more for good quality work clothes, while one in ten girls has bought smarter workwear in the past 12 months to get ahead.

For a stylish yet fashionable look, you could pair your office clothes with some elegant opaque or sheer tights from MyTights.com.

We love Trasparenze Amleto Tights, which have a smart diamond net pattern and would look fantastic with a knee-length pencil skirt.

Rihanna goes to dinner in funky fashion tights

She’s very edgy when it comes to her style, so it was no surprise to see Rihanna wearing another pair of funky fashion tights this week.

We spotted her a few months back wearing a pair of cut-out opaques and it seems that she liked the look so much, she went out and got another, albeit slightly different, pair.

Instead of being cut-out all around, these just had a pattern running down the side of each leg - but it created a more subtly sexy look than we’re used to seeing her in.

Rihanna was heading out to dinner with her new beau Matt Kemp, who plays baseball for LA Dodgers. The romance seems to be going well, as she was also papped on holiday with him recently too!

For hosiery like Rihanna’s latest style, you could try Emilio Cavallini’s Holes Tights, which look really futuristic.

However, for a more toned-down look that would suit a more casual night out, we also stock Aristoc Ladder Black Tights at MyTights.com, which always get plenty of admiring glances.

Leggings - Forget practical and choose exciting!

Although leggings are great as a practical accessory for under your dresses, you should choose embellished and textured styles if you want to keep your finger on the fashion pulse.

This is the advice of Models Direct, which acknowledged that it was basic styles which made us fall back in love with leggings a few years ago, but said that it is the new types which have allowed the romance to continue.

It recommended choosing leather, sequined, denim and embellished varieties of leggings to add maximum style to your outfits.

For example, a rock chick ensemble of a batwing-sleeved t-shirt dress and short boots will look good with plain black or grey leggings, but it will look great with wet look leggings!

If you want to add a wintry feel to your dresses at present, you could opt for velvet leggings such as those from Jonathan Aston at MyTights.com.

However, when it comes to a wardrobe staple for going out, we love MbyM’s Wet Look Leggings, which are super-shiny and will really turn heads.

At this time of year, we love looking forward to what is arriving in the stores for the first months of spring.

However, all this snow has left us in something of a style rut - we’re living in woolly jumpers at home and layering up as many tops as we can for work.

As usual though, you can cleverly get ahead and wear next season’s trends if you apply layering and complementary hosiery.

Olivia fisher of My Fashion Life points out that a huge trend is set to be nautical chic in the spring, but you can fast forward it to now by swapping shorts and bare legs for grey opaque tights.

She said that grey is the perfect partner to vests and longline cardigans with blue or white piping and gold buttons, plus tights will keep your legs warm and let you wear your winter boots too.

We agree - grey tights suit most skin tones and also look fab when paired with bright colours. You could go for wool tights now, then lower the denier as it (hopefully) warms up.

Levante’s 50D Suede Matte Opaque Tights will be perfect for that period just before summer when you don’t quite dare get your legs out!

If you want to liven up your outfits for a fun look this winter, you should try some patterned tights.

Melissa Magsaysay of the Los Angeles Times, writing for the Olympian, said they will add a playful quality to anything you wear, which could cheer you up if you’ve got the January blues.

"Patterned tights play well this time of year, breathing new life into existing pieces and adding a pop of unexpected texture," she enthused, recommending anything lacy, striped or dotty to fashionistas.

However, Melissa also said there is plenty of room for single-coloured tights, with grey or white great for pairing with a vintage dress and lace-up ankle boots and black fab for slimming the legs.

When it comes to dotty tights, you still can’t beat Gerbe’s Plumetis style, which is a Vogue favourite too.

For nice thick white hosiery however, we love Falke’s Elegance Cashmere Blend Tights.

If you embraced 2009 as the year of leggings and exciting hosiery, then be prepared to enjoy much of the same in 2010.

This is according to Elizabeth Wellington, fashion expert at the Philadelphia Enquirer, who predicts that wet look leggings and those with embellishments like studs will continue to be a major trend over the coming months.

"The legging fascination will continue … Pair your liquid leggings with a sheer blouse over a cute cami and with a men’s-style blazer," she advised.

Wet look leggings are great and we have some fantastic ones available at MyTights.com from MbyM.

However, if you want to try another trend that the celebs are already embracing, how about catsuits and bodysuits?

Jennifer Lopez wore a skin-tight nude catsuit on New Year’s Eve, while Beyonce has also been snapped in one.

If you want to try something similar for a night out, Jonathan Aston’s Wet Look Body Stocking could be perfect. Opaque from above the bust to the toes, it would be perfect with a miniskirt - or without if you’re really brave!

As we’re sure you’re all aware by now, the UK is currently blanketed in a lot of very deep snow.

Getting to work and the shops has become akin to an Arctic expedition and unless you’re wearing about six layers, you’re sure to feel that Siberian wind coming through to bite you.

However, we were stunned the other day to see a young woman close to MyTights HQ walking down the street - mercifully where the snow had been cleared - wearing a skirt, bare legs and flip-flops. We kid you not.

Clearly this behaviour is sure to lead to a lot of people catching their death over the next few weeks, but it can be so easily avoided.

If you are hell-bent on wearing a skirt instead of trousers, put on a pair of wool ribbed tights too, for heavens’ sake! We find that these are usually warmer than trousers, plus they can be easily tucked into boots and won’t come off with your wellies. You can even wear them under trousers if you get really cold.

One of our favourite products is Falke’s Soft Merino Wool Ribbed Tights, which are top quality, really warm and not at all itchy thanks to their blend of wool and cotton.

While last week - last year, in fact! - we were lauding Anna Friel’s choice of vintage dress and leggings combo, the actress has now demonstrated that she can rock patterned tights just as effectively.

The Breakfast at Tiffany’s star was spotted by the Daily Mail wearing a simple little black dress along with lacy tights outside the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

Anna’s bold, floral-printed hosiery really complemented her frock, while the splashes of red colouring made her scarlet lipstick and nail polish pop.

However, the tights may not have kept her as warm as her leggings, as she eventually put on a gold brocade coat while she posed for photos for the waiting paparazzi.

The starlet may be keen to finish acting in Breakfast at Tiffany’s with a bang - it finishes its run in the West End later this month.

However, given the stylish looks Anna has sported recently, we’re sure it won’t be long before she has more work lined up!

For similar hosiery, try Pamela Mann’s Wild Flower Lace Tights, which are available from MyTights.com in a range of colours.

Wolford Velvet Leggings from MyTights.comAnna Friel, who is currently starring as Holly Golightly in the West End’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, has become as famous for her after-show outfits as she has for her performance as the flighty it-girl.

The Pushing Daisies star has been spotted in an array of dazzling dresses as she leaves the Theatre Royal Haymarket each night, earning her dozens of column inches for her style sense.

And we were pleased to see that despite sub-zero temperatures this week, Anna didn’t ditch her super-stylish look - she was pictured in the Sun (here) wearing a cute peach dress together with thick leggings as she left the venue.

This allowed her to stay relatively warm while still rocking the vintage look she’s so fond of - and it’s a style you can copy as you head out this New Year’s Eve!

Anna’s leggings had a touch of velvet applique running down the legs, but if you want to go even more glamorous, why not opt for Wolford’s Velvet Leggings from MyTights.com?

These are really soft and would look fantastic teamed with a dress like Anna’s, or with a more casual longline T-shirt.ADNFCR-2232-ID-19534891-ADNFCR
